What is The Night Before Christmas about?

On Christmas Eve, a family sleeps peacefully when the father is awakened by a clatter. Peering out, he witnesses St. Nicholas arriving in a sleigh pulled by eight reindeer. The jolly old elf enters through the chimney, fills the stockings with gifts, and departs, exclaiming, 'Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!'
