Synopsis

During the Blitz, 15-year-old runaway Bill thrives on London's streets, earning as a barrow-boy and sleeping in air-raid shelters. His life changes when he meets Julie, a fellow runaway from a privileged background. Together, they navigate the dangers of wartime London, finding shelter in bombed-out houses and evading authorities. As winter approaches and the bombings intensify, they realise that their adventure is fraught with peril, and playing at being adults carries serious consequences.

She is well known for her book 'Fireweed', which tells a brave tale set during the Second World War.
