Greg Heffley's mum believes video games are turning his brain to mush and urges him to explore his creative side. With Halloween approaching and frights lurking everywhere, Greg stumbles upon a bag of gummy worms, sparking an idea to make a horror film. He hopes this project will appease his mum and perhaps even lead to fame and fortune. However, as Greg delves into filmmaking, he finds that his plan may bring more trouble than anticipated.
