Orphaned Jonas Jones, accompanied by his loyal dog Scraps, faces hunger and exhaustion. When the sinister dog catcher Megrim and his assistant Filch threaten to take Scraps away, Jonas is determined to protect his friend. His quest for help leads him to the eerie Rickety Hall, a mysterious mansion atop the hill that no one dares to enter. Inside, Jonas encounters a series of increasingly ancient gentlemen, each with tales of boys and dogs from the past, culminating in a surprising twist that changes his fate.
