What is The Cautionary Tale of the Childe of Hale about?
The Childe of Hale is a gentle giant whose feet dangle from his tiny cottage windows. When the King visits, he promises the Childe riches, fine clothes and a grand life in London. Delighted by his new-found fame, the Childe leaves his friends behind. But the King has a secret plan: he wants the giant to fight a fierce bear. After winning the battle, the Childe discovers that royal kindness can hide selfish motives—and that friendship and home may be worth more than wealth.
