Fourteen-year-old Velvet Brown dreams of riding in the Grand National. When she wins a piebald horse in a village raffle, she is certain he has the courage and strength to become a champion. With help from her friend Mi, Velvet trains the horse in secret and prepares for England’s greatest steeplechase. But the race is dangerous, and society believes girls should not compete. As Velvet and her horse face enormous obstacles, their determination is tested to the limit.
