In 1889, young engineer Victor Hatherley is lured to a secluded house under the guise of repairing a hydraulic press. Upon discovering its sinister use in counterfeiting, he narrowly escapes a deadly trap, losing his thumb in the process. Seeking justice, he turns to Sherlock Holmes, who unravels the mystery and pursues the criminals.
