First published in 2008, The Sporty Fairies is a seven-book Rainbow Magic adventure series written under Daisy Meadows, the collective pen name of several authors. Best friends Rachel and Kirsty enter Fairyland, where Jack Frost has stolen the magical items belonging to fairies of sport, including riding, football, skating, netball, swimming, tennis and gymnastics. In each story, the girls help a different fairy recover her missing treasure, gradually restoring order before the Fairy Olympics. With short chapters, illustrations and familiar sporting themes, the series suits children aged around five to eight, especially newly independent readers. Mild peril, magical mischief and occasional captures may unsettle sensitive children.
