Written and published between 2009 and 2011, The Dark Realm is the third six-book arc in Adam Blade’s Beast Quest series. Tom and Elenna leave Avantia and venture into Gorgonia, a sinister kingdom ruled by the evil wizard Malvel. Each instalment brings a new challenge, as they confront fearsome creatures including a minotaur, winged stallion, sea monster, gorgon hound, mammoth and scorpion man while trying to rescue the captured Good Beasts. Fast-paced and accessible, the series should appeal to children aged around 7–10 who enjoy fantasy quests, magical creatures and straightforward battles.
