What is The Don't Let The Pigeon series by Mo Willems about?
First published in 2003, Mo Willems’s series follows one determined, expressive pigeon whose everyday ambitions repeatedly clash with sensible boundaries. From wanting to drive a bus, the pigeon moves on to pleading for snacks, avoiding baths and bedtime, staying up late, and attempting other wonderfully familiar schemes. Each story invites children to join the conversation, judge the pigeon’s arguments and enjoy his increasingly elaborate protests. With bold illustrations, comic repetition and plenty of opportunities for participation, the books particularly suit pre-school and early-primary readers, especially children who enjoy humour, cheeky characters and testing limits. Mild tantrums, manipulation and rule-breaking are recurring themes, but there is no serious danger.
