Synopsis

Bee, a daydreamer with a dislike for her long name, strives to avoid her quarrelling parents and the torment of Crystal Kelly. When dared to join a sponsored swim in memory of her great-grandmother, despite her fear of water, Bee can't refuse. Enter Moon-Star, a new boy who introduces her to Old Alice, a Traveller in a painted wagon. Together, Bee and Moon-Star make a pact: he'll teach her to swim if she teaches him to read, forging a transformative friendship.
