In 1611, twelve-year-old Jack Fletcher is shipwrecked off Japan's coast after ninja pirates kill his father and crew. Rescued by the legendary sword master Masamoto Takeshi, Jack trains to become a samurai. Facing bullying and isolation at samurai school, he relies on his friend Akiko and his own determination to prove himself. Jack must confront deadly rivals and challenges that test his courage and skills to the limit.

Chris also enjoys martial arts, which helps him write realistic action scenes. He hopes his stories inspire children to be courageous and never give up.
