When young tearaway Jack is evacuated from wartime London to the countryside, he expects trouble—but not to be blamed for a theft he did not commit. Angry and determined to prove himself, Jack sets off for home, facing air raids, dangerous roads and the chaos of the Blitz. To complete his journey, he must take a bicycle and keep moving.
