Alem’s parents come from Ethiopia and Eritrea, countries divided by war, so he has never had a truly safe home. During a holiday in London with his father, Alem wakes to discover he has been left alone. Confused and frightened, he must navigate an unfamiliar city, a new school and the British authorities while trying to understand his parents’ desperate choice. With courage and help from unexpected friends, Alem begins to fight for safety, belonging and the chance to build a future.
