What is Beauty and the Beast (plus Jake): an untraditional graphic novel about?

Jake thinks fairy tales are childish, but everything changes when he magically tumbles into the world of Beauty and the Beast. There he meets kind-hearted Belle and discovers that the Beast is demanding, rude and surprisingly lonely. When Belle leaves to visit her ill father, Jake tries to befriend the Beast and challenge his behaviour. As Jake helps the enchanted characters, he begins to recognise some of his own unkind habits and learns that growing up does not mean losing empathy or imagination.
