What is Alfie Wins a Prize about?

Alfie and his sister Annie Rose attend the Harvest Fair, where Alfie enters his painting, 'Motorbike Man', into the under-fives competition. He wins third prize, but notices that Louise, who received the consolation prize—a woolly sheep—is unhappy and discards it. Feeling sorry for the sheep, Alfie devises a thoughtful plan to cheer everyone up.

About the author

Shirley Hughes was a much-loved British author and illustrator, famous for her beautiful picture books. She created the popular Alfie series, which follows the adventures of a little boy and his family. Shirley's warm stories and gentle drawings have made her books favourites for children and families all around the UK.
