What is The kingdom by the sea about?

When an air raid destroys Harry’s home and kills his family, he is left alone in wartime North East England. Fearing he will be sent to live with his fussy cousin Elsie, Harry runs away. As he travels through bomb-damaged towns and along the coast, his only companion is a stray dog he meets on the beach. Together they face danger, hunger and uncertainty while Harry searches for somewhere safe to belong. Can he find a new home before the war claims him too?

Robert Westall was a British author who wrote exciting adventure and mystery stories for young people. He is best known for his book 'The Machine Gunners', which won several awards. Robert loved writing about brave children and animals, and his books are enjoyed by readers who like stories full of suspense and heart.
