Synopsis
Poppet, a young African elephant, is warned by his mother to avoid mice, as they might run up elephants' trunks. Curious, Poppet questions various animals about their identity, until he meets Momo, a mouse who admits the truth. Momo convinces Poppet that the fear is just an old wives' tale, and they become friends. Initially shocked, Poppet's mother is eventually won over by Momo's eloquence.
About the author
Dick King-Smith was a much-loved British author who wrote over 100 books for children, often about animals and farms. His most famous story is 'The Sheep-Pig', which inspired the popular film 'Babe'. Dick loved spending time with animals and used his real-life experiences to create his wonderful, imaginative stories.
