What is Dumpling about?

Dumpling is a dachshund with a difference. While her brothers are long and sausage-shaped, she is short, round and rather dumpy. Tired of standing out, Dumpling wishes she could look like the other dogs. Deep in the woods, a witch’s cat grants her wish—but the magic soon goes wrong. Dumpling stretches longer and longer, becoming the longest dog anyone has ever seen. As her strange new shape causes trouble, she begins to wonder whether being herself was not so bad after all.

About the author

Dick King-Smith was a much-loved British author who wrote over 100 books for children, often about animals and farms. His most famous story is 'The Sheep-Pig', which inspired the popular film 'Babe'. Dick loved spending time with animals and used his real-life experiences to create his wonderful, imaginative stories.
