When their parents die aboard the Titanic, seventeen-year-old Binnie Bone refuses to let her six younger siblings be separated. Determined to keep the family together, she takes charge of their Edwardian household, facing money troubles, family expectations and the many demands of caring for children. Over the next four years, Binnie grows into her responsibilities and begins a tender romance with the local vicar. But when the First World War begins, her brothers and sweetheart enlist, bringing courage, uncertainty and heartbreaking loss into their lives.
About the author
Dick King-Smith was a much-loved British author who wrote over 100 books for children, often about animals and farms. His most famous story is 'The Sheep-Pig', which inspired the popular film 'Babe'. Dick loved spending time with animals and used his real-life experiences to create his wonderful, imaginative stories.
